Cold and draughty sash windows in the winter, difficult to open and close in the summer - these are issues that homeowners with sash windows commonly face. Our Box Sash Window Overhaul and Draught-proof service solves these issues and more.

A common misconception is that the cold resulting from old single glazed sash windows is that they have only a single pane, but it is actually mainly due to draughts coming in through the edges of the sash windows. Our draught-proofing system is designed to eliminate these draughts.

Servicing the window at the same time with a thorough overhaul results in a smoothly running window, which is aligned well, and opens and closes correctly and securely, both top and bottom sashes. The method of this work is summarised as follows:

Sashes are carefully removed from box frame for all required machining.
Pulley wheels are to be serviced and all excess loose or flaking paint restricting the movement of the sashes will be removed.
Any necessary minor timber frame or sash repairs to be carried out.
Any necessary adjustments to sash weights made.
All alterations will be made to achieve a smooth sliding action of both top and bottom sashes. Sashes will be correctly aligned to open and close properly to allow maximum ventilation when needed.
Consumable components of the sash windows are to be renewed, such as staff beads, parting beads fitted with new draft-proofing seals and UK manufactured sash cords.
Discreetly fitted brush draft seals are to be installed in all beading and rebated into the top, bottom and meeting rails of all sashes. All new timber will be primed and undercoated.
