Draught-proofing pretty sash windows in Herne Bay

The dilemma for our client here is they wanted to cut out the noise through the sash windows in their bedroom. Being near to Herne Bay train station produced quite a lot of early morning activity outside.

The first instinct of the client was to replace their sash windows with double glazing of some sort, but they were understandably torn with the idea of losing these unusual and beautiful sash windows, with pretty coloured glass in the top panes. To lose them would not only take away a lovely original feature from the house to enjoy, but also surely de-value their property too.

But by carefully considering where the noise was primarily coming through the sash windows – namely the gaps around the edges – it was decided to simply draught-proof the sash windows. The objective of this work is of course to stop the cold draughts coming through, but it also greatly helps with noise reduction as well.

Double glazing the sash windows would of course have helped further too, but this was a good compromise for our client to be able to keep their lovely sash windows, reduce noise and draughts coming through the sashes and save a considerable sum by not having entirely new windows fitted.
